The Scaffaiolo Lake is a mountain lake located in the municipality of Fanano, in the province of Modena, nestled in the upper Modenese Apennines. Its location and characteristics make it a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The name “Scaffaiolo” is believed to derive from the Lombard word scaffa, which translates as “hollow in the ground” or “depression.” This name reflects the area’s geomorphological features that shape the lake’s surroundings—an area characterized by gentle depressions and mountain ridges.

Libro Aperto
Mountain group of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, named after its distinctive shape resembling an open book. From the summit, at 1937 meters above sea level, you can admire, on clear days, the Po Valley, the Alps, and the Apennine ridge of the Abetone area.
Diocesan Museum of Religious Art
This Museum, a branch of the Diocesan one in Pistoia, is divided in two sections: the chapel of Compagnia del SS. Sacramento and the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta. The Chapel contains valuable religious vestments, from the Pistoia Mountains area, silverware and liturgical furnishing. In the Romanesque Pieve there are important paintings, including work by Sebastiano Vini from Verona and Giacinto Gimignani from Pistoia, the latter being the favourite painter of Pope Clemens IX, stylish sculptures and valuable goldsmith items, including Baroque artifacts from Rome. (Piazza della Chiesa, Popiglio, San Marcello Piteglio).
Vico Pancellorum
The small but pretty village welcomes and offers you a well deserved rest while, at the same time, fascinating you by the many works of contemporary art exhibited along its lanes. As you explore Vico, you can appreciate all the sculptures and paintings on exhibition here, the number of which increase every year when the annual festival takes place: The Artists' Week. This magical hamlet is unique also for the fact that it has its own language, the so-called Arivaresca dialect: it partly originated thanks to its tinsmiths, craftsmen who repaired pots and pans and who, craftily in order to not be understood, invented their own language, which has been passed down through the years, even up to today. The enigmatic Pieve di San Paolo, dating back to the 11th century, must not be missed; its peculiar allegorical motifs, carved into the facade's architrave, are most intriguing.
Valdibrana
